"If one day you hang Chinese red lanterns and Lishi seals all over Christmas trees sold to the West, you will be the most successful," Liu Haichun, Vice President of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, told China Youth Network reporters. He once encouraged an alumni from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies who sells Christmas gifts at the Canton Fair, hoping that they can add Chinese elements to Christmas tree gifts sold to Western countries, and looks forward to seeing red lanterns and Lishi seals on Christmas trees in the West in the future.
On July 1, Liu Haichun, on behalf of the Yunshan student work study party branch of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, which was commended by the "National Advanced Grass roots Party Organization", attended the 95th anniversary conference of the founding of the CPC in the Great Hall of the People.
Based on practical work experience, Liu Haichun told reporters that during his exchange with European universities, he found that one of the achievements in China's cultural construction in the past 10 years is the establishment of more than 1500 Confucius Institutes and schools overseas. "Utilizing the carrier of Confucius Institutes to spread China's excellent traditional culture, promoting the 'going out' of Chinese culture, and promoting the prosperity and development of Chinese traditional culture."
"On the streets of Brussels, Belgium, we are pleased to see a group of foreigners playing Taijiquan, with a flag beside it, printed with Chinese elements. Seeing foreigners abroad promoting Chinese culture proves that Chinese culture is very vital, and reflects the welcome and recognition of the world's people for Chinese culture." Liu Haichun sighed: "We can be fully confident in our own culture, and spread the essence of 5000 years of traditional culture to the world."
As a key provincial university with distinct international characteristics, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies is not only a base for cultivating international talents, but also a bridge for promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. According to Liu Haichun, there are over 2000 overseas students studying abroad at Guangwai every year, as well as over 1000 Chinese students who go abroad, exchange, and pursue further education. "How to bring back Chinese culture through foreign students from all over the world, and how to enable Chinese students studying abroad to spread Chinese culture, are the topics we have been researching."
Liu Haichun told reporters that Guangwai will focus on cultivating Chinese students studying abroad to master more traditional cultural skills, such as calligraphy, Tai Chi, and Chinese Kung Fu. It is understood that the student group of Guangdong University of Foreign Languages and Trade's Guangwangyuan Martial Arts Association aims to promote the spirit of martial arts, strengthen my physique, and contribute the strength of young people in inheriting and promoting traditional Chinese culture. Liu Haichun hopes that Chinese students can bring more Chinese culture abroad, so that more foreigners can understand and identify with Chinese culture. In addition, one of the characteristic campus activities of Guangdong International Studies University, the "Chinese Culture Festival", also allows international students to see the vastness and profoundness of Chinese culture.
Liu Haichun also expressed the hope that more universities can play the role of youth in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
